Frances Evans Whetstone, died peacefully in her sleep on September 15th at age 86. She was born on May 17, 1930, in Santuck, Alabama, grew up in Alex City, and lived most of her adult life in Sylacauga. She married Lawrence Alton Whetstone in August 1946, in Tallapoosa County, Alabama. She is preceded in death by her son, William Donald Whetstone, her parents, Thomas William Evans and Emma Eviline Evans; brothers Bill, Johnny, Franklin R. Evans, and Pete; and her sisters Lucille E. Frances Evans Whetstone, died peacefully in her sleep on September 15th at age 86. She was born on May 17, 1930, in Santuck, Alabama, grew up in Alex City, and lived most of her adult life in Sylacauga. She married Lawrence Alton Whetstone in August 1946, in Tallapoosa County, Alabama. She is preceded in death by her son, William Donald Whetstone, her parents, Thomas William Evans and Emma Eviline Evans; brothers Bill, Johnny, Franklin R. Evans, and Pete; and her sisters Lucille E. Taunton, and Pauline E. Garrett. Survivors include her daughter, Fay Bryant (Raymond); her son, David Whetstone (Cyndi); Betty Duffy, step-daughter, and grandchildren and great grandchildren including Mike Whetstone (Terri), Chad Bryant, Allison Bryant, Laura Leigh Rutherford (Russell), Jordan Elizabeth Whetstone, Tandi Rollins (Tyler), Jason Whetstone, Ragan Whetstone, and Amy Talton; and a brother, Rudolph Evans, Great Great Grandchildren; Jakson and Jakob Rollins. She worked for over 45 years with Avondale Mills, both in Alexander City and Sylacauga. Upon her retirement from Avondale, she was instrumental in establishing the first bed and breakfast in Sylacauga where she found joy in cooking for and greeting the many people who visited. She remained active in the business until it was sold years later. She loved her family, friends, and her cats. Frances was a member of Oldfield Baptist Church since 1959. Pall bearers include Chad Bryant, Jason Whetstone, Russell Rutherford, Jonathan Head, Tyler Rollins, and BJ Childress.

Arrangements are with Curtis and Son Funeral Home, North Chapel, 1315 Talladega Highway, Sylacauga, AL. Visitation is Friday, September 16, 2016 from 5-8:00PM. Funeral is Saturday, September 17 at 10:00AM. Rev. Tony McGrady and Rev. Dr. Lee Shafer will officiate. Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery immediately following.
